Originally from Nottingham, I started my journey at New College Nottingham (NCN) with a B-Tec national diploma in graphic and 3D design. After passing with flying colours and discovering something I was good at, I decided to progress with a university degree.
My chosen university was in Staffordshire where I did a course focusing on both academic and creative design work with access to some great facilities. The briefs enabled me to release my creativity and become very hands-on designer. Coming from a 3D and Graphics course I took pride in being able to make my final outcomes, and then decided to become a package designer as it uses both the 3D craft design, accompanied by the graphics.
I graduated in 2013 gaining employment straight away with Sports Direct as a junior designer, designing everything from repeat patterns and t-shirt graphics to packaging and products. I then left this position to do a series of internships with some of the most awarded studios in London specifically focusing on brand & packaging.
I had the chance to work on massive clients and lucky enough to get some of my work presented and even used, adding to my portfolio and experience. After 5 internships, I decided that London itself isn’t for me! The prospect of never owning a property, never being able to find a toilet, living in a tiny room and paying up to £10 for one alcoholic drink made me realise how much I prefer the north.
So armed with my new experience working with great designers, boosting my skill level and design thinking, I landed my first job as a brand and packaging design at Equator design, which just happened to me in my hometown (Nottingham)
Equator is a top design agency that delivers a complete design to shelf packaging solution from creative to artwork, re-touch to photography all under one roof. Having creativity at the core of everything they do clearly differentiates them from the competition.
I worked at Equator for 3 years and during that time I worked my way up from junior to a mid-level designer, became the lead designer for Next overseeing and creating all design work for 2 years, designed an international packaging re-fresh for Mothercare which is used in all stores and enhanced my skills and experience significantly by working on the full creative process from start to finish.
I now work as a packaging and point of sale designer for QEP, a worldwide leader in the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of a comprehensive line of specialty tools targeted for the professional installer as well as the home improvement market. The Company markets over 3,000 specialty tools and related products used primarily for surface preparation. Headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, the Company markets its products in all 50 states and in over 75 countries worldwide.
Now with over 5 years experience working for leading brands and small business, I now have the confidence and skills to deliver design work independently and professionally.
I welcome any emails, letters, inboxes, texts and conversations with anyone who wishes to ask me questions or to discuss design work.
